The Bonus Chest

If it is your first time playing Minecraft, I recommend to activated a bonus chest in the World settings. The bonus chest is a chest near to your spawn point, full with useful things.

When you start the game, look around to find the bonus chest.

Go to the chest and open it, with right-click.

The Inventory

Your Inventory is like a rucksack.

There are two places in the inventory:

• That big place up is where you store your things
• The small place down is the fast access place

If you want to open your inventory, you have to press “E”.
If you want to close the inventory, you must press “E” or Esc”.

If you want to change the item that you hold than you have to press the number of the place in your fast access inventory.

Drag all things from the chest in your inventory. By double click on any item, all items like that item (you clicked on) will be collected.

Destroy the chest and the torches by clicking on them and collect them.

If you don’t want to use the bonus chest, than you have to produce your own tools on the crafting table.

Build a crafting Table

It’s time to build a crafting table. With crafting tables you can build items, like tools, a bed, an oven, a boat…
Without a crafting table you can still craft using the crafting fields in your inventory, but you can’t build complicated items with them, like a bed, an oven, a boat…

If you put items in the right crafting fields, then a other (more complicated) item appears in the (single) field right.

Congratulation. You have a crafting table.
But that isn’t all. If you don’t want to fight against mobs (monsters) the entire night (and probably die doing it), then you need a bed.

Build a Bed

You can skip the dangerous night, that is full of mobs, by sleeping in a bed. If you die, then you respawn at your spawning point. But if you slept in a bed, you will respawn in the bed. You also regenerate life when you sleep.

We need three sheep (three wool-blocks) of the same color and three wood planks to build a bed.

Don’t forget that tools do more damage to everything. So, use the tools when you get the wool or when you get wood, to be as fast as possible. It´s time to hunt sheep!

Put the crafting table in front of you (You must press right-click to put a block somewhere). Now activate the crafting table by right click on it.

On the left, there should be a table (list). If not then click on the (green) book to open it. Now search for the bed in the table (list).

Sleep in the bed, if its dark outside. To sleep in a bed you must right click on it. Once you activated a bed you will skip (sleep) over the night. Don’t forget that you can’t sleep while it’s day.

If you still have time before nightfall, then go and collect other materials to build a house and also get stone to build better tools.

Get Stone

You need stone to build better tools and an oven. You must use a pickaxe, because if you don’t use a pickaxe, the stone will just disappear.

Upgrade and explore

At first you have to build stone tools. They’re better than the wood tools. If you already have stone tools, than you can do the next step.

Now, it’s time to build a oven. You can use a oven to cook meat. Cooked meat makes you faster full.

Explore: Explore the location around you. If your lucky, you could find a village. If yes, then go into the houses of the village and search for chests. I also recommend to build your base (house) in the village, because the village is more save then other bioms (places), because often there are iron golems that protect the village from mobs. You can also trade with the villager (the people) that live there. It’s okay if you haven’t found a village. Villages are rare, after all.
How to build a base.

While you explore, you should also collect everything that seams useful, like plants.

Find a good place and build a house. Don’t forget to put the torches in and around the house. Torches produce light and light prevents the spawning of mobs. To craft them, you must combine a stick and a piece of coal or charcoal. You can produce charcoal by putting two blocks of wood in a oven.

Build a Farm

To build a farm you have to gather seeds. Destroy grass and collect the seeds. Do not worry, if you don’t find seeds after destroying a block of grass. Not every time you destroy grass there are seeds as leftover.

Find a water puddle and right-click with a hoe on the earth around the puddle. Now, you can plant your seeds on that earth. Put torches around your farm, so the plants will grow at night to.

It’s time for a chicken farm too. All what you need is a gate, fences and seeds.

1. Build a big cage from the gate and the fences
2. Find chickens
3. Hold seeds in your hand
4. The chickens will follow so long you hold the seeds in your hand
5. Go into the cage and close the gate, so the chicken can’t escape
6. Feed the chicken with seeds (by right click on them) until hearts come out of them. The hearts mean that they are having babies.

Don’t forget that chickens also lay eggs. You can trow that eggs on the ground and if your lucky, then there will spawn a baby chicken.

Congratulation. You have a farm. 😀

Mine, Explore, Fight

You have to Mine to get better materials and build better tools and other useful things.

There are two options how to mine:

	Dig your own mine	Explore a cave
Advantages:	No mobs (if you put many torches in there)	Fast process
Disadvantages:	Slow process	Dangerous (many mobs)

Take your tools and dig a big hole or explore a cave. Search for Coal, copper, iron, gold, diamond, redstone and lapis lazuli.

Build an armor

You can build an armor. The armor can be made of leather, iron, gold…

The simplest to build (and weakest) armor, is the armor made of leather.

Expand your Farm

At first we need more animals for the farm. I recommend cows and sheep, because they’re ease the catch. To catch cows and sheep, you must do the same thing like when you cached the chicken, but you must hold wheat in your hand instead of seeds. One or two days before you planted some seeds. Do you remember? Now the seeds should grow after some time to big yellow plants.

Click on the plants when there big and yellow, to obtain wheat and more seeds.

You can craft bred from three pieces of wheat. Or, you can feed your sheep and cows with the wheat.

Are your plants growing very slow and you don’t want to wait? Then you need a composter. You can put items like seeds or wheat or flowers or any other plant in the composter.
If you put enough in it, bone meal will come out off the composter. If you right click with the bone meal on plants, then they grow faster.

Compass and maps

You can use compass and maps for better orientation. The compass always shows you the direction to your spawning point. While the map show you the area around you.

Enchant

You can enchant tools, bows and armors to make them better.

What is a campfire

Campfires can be used only for cooking meat. I know that it sounds strange. Why shouldn’t you build a campfire if you already have an oven? The answer is simple.
1) The campfire doesn’t need wood or coal to work.
2) The campfire can cook up to four piece of meat at the same time.
3) The campfire produce smoke, so if you place your campfire outside or you build a chimney around it, then you can see your house from (a little) distance.

Monster in Minecraft

I listed the most typical mobs in minecraft.

What is Redstone

Redstone is the equivalent of electricity in Minecraft.

Place redstone dust on the ground to build a “cable”.

At one end you must place a power source.
At the other end you must place an object that can interact with redstone.

For example, at first you place a long cable made of redstone dust. After that, you place at one end of the cable a lever and at the other end a door.
If you click on the lever the door opens, because by clicking on the lever the lever sends an signal to all blocks around it. The cable made of redstone dust will be activated by the signal of the lever and will transmit the signal to the door. Once the door received the signal, it will open.

If you click on the lever again, the lever won’t send the signal anymore and the cable won’t transmit the signal, because there isn’t any signal to transmit anymore.
The cable won’t receive a signal and close.

How to use Redstone

You already know the basics of using Redstone. Now Its time to build something more difficult.

How to build an elevator

1. Dig a hole that is at least four blocks broad and long (dig the hole where you want to build the elevator). The hole must be as deep as the distance that you want to reach with your elevator. The elevator works for highs up to 14 blocks.
2. Fill up the hole with sticky pistons (max. 14) which are directed upwards.
3. Build a (one block high) platform made of stone, on the sticky pistons.
4. Dig two others holes, one right and one left of the first hole of the first hole.
5. Put a lever on the platform.
6. Connect the lever with the pistons, by putting redstone in the holes.

The basics

• You should always use doors or trapdoors or something similar, so mobs can’t enter your house.
• Wood can burn, so I recommend to use something else that can’t burn, like earth and stone and iron.
• The walls should be made of dicker than one block, so in case that a creeper explodes you can still hide in your house without the problem that there is a hole in the wall, that monsters can use to enter your house.
• Obsidian can’t be destroyed by creepers.

How to build a simple house

If you created a new world and you need a simple house, so monsters can’t attack you, then there is a simple solution:

1. You need something to build your house from. Earth is easy to obtain if you use a shovel.
2. You need doors so you can enter without discovering that your house is full of mobs.
3. Place torches in and around your house so mobs can’t spawn.
4. It’s time for the furniture.

How to use a tree house efficient

To get into your tree house you will need a way up. You can use normal stairs. Stairs look good and you can use them to bring your animals into your tree house.
You should place a door or a trapdoor at the end of your stairs or ladders.
You can use ladders, if you don’t have enough space or materials to build stairs.
If you have enough materials, I recommend to build walls (and a roof if possible) around your stairs and ladders,
so monsters like creeper, skeletons and phantoms can’t attack you.

There is another way to get to your tree house: an elevator.
How to build an elevator.

You can build a small platform with earth as the base, for your tree house, so you can plant plants on the platform.
You can also build a stable and grow animals in it.
If you don’t want to build stairs to bring your animals into your tree house, then you could trow eggs, because there is a chance
when you trow a egg, that a baby chicken spawns.

Paintings

You want to make your house look better, then you need a painting.

If you put a painting on a wall one (of many pictures) will appear in form of a painting. If you don’t like the painting that you can destroy it and put it again on the wall.
The size of the picture depends on the free space around the place where you placed the painting. Which pictures appear depends on the size of the painting.

You can walk through paintings.
That means that you could place a secret door (or something else) behind the painting.
